I went on a photography outing to visit the Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan. There was only time for a quick outing to the see the De Zwaan windmill. My first impressions were that it was a tourist trap. There is a narrow drive through a wetlands that seems strategically placed to keep most people out. Unless, you are buying admission.

Headed to the Windmill

We definitely missed the window for the tulips in bloom. Everyone is shocked… “oh, they came early this year.” What in climate change’s name could be going on?

End of season tulips.

Like most tourists traps, there are plenty of smoke and mirrors to make a magical experience as long as you don’t look around too hard.

Industry and removing finished tulips so they can be replaced by ‘fresh’ tulips from the green house for your enjoyment.

The windmill is impressive and it may be worth it to you to visit for a couple of hours.

I tried to capture some images that others may have missed as I departed the grounds on this grey, chilly, day.
