The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in Grand Rapids, MI happened this past weekend and I attended it for the first time with my friend (who was also hosting). There were 15 of us in the group and I got to meet some local (and not so local photographers). Some folks traveled over two hours to join the walk. Below are a sample of the photos that I took while on the walk.
I like this lady and you could tell she has a lot of personality. She had to come out and ask why the heck people were taking pictures of the dumpster!
I’m not above enjoying some well placed graffiti. Also, I don’t know what it is about signs, but I like photos of signs.
I wanted to catch the morning light and the high contrast while also capturing some movement in the city.
The blue on blue and vanishing lines almost makes this monochrome. I thought this looked like a dance floor or a music video stage
These young folks were horsing around while waiting for their next guest to arrive. I liked the orange light in contrast to the purple plant in different light in the foreground.
I love this photo and the way the car is captured in the sunlight and the surrounding chaos. However, my zoom lens 80–170mm isn’t that great so a lot of material was cropped out of the original photo to get this they way I wanted.
I think this is the sharpest picture I’ve ever gotten from a puddle. The morning light on the building is in stark contrast to the stones.
This tunnel is made for silhouettes. It looks busy, but this part of our group of photographers. The city was pretty quiet in the morning on a weekend.
Trying to capture the Calder sculpture in a different way. This was off the fender of a truck parked nearby. That was the best angle I could get but it isn’t what I wanted.
I’m not a huge fan of pictures of the Calder sculpture and even this one with the strong colors feels pretty ‘meh’.
I really enjoy this photo as it squeezes in a lot of the scene and tops of the buildings and bottom of the cars due to the angle. There is also that really nice vanishing point. I have not gotten the same impression from others.
