Pico’s Pictures: Dahlia Exhibit
Hello, friends! Please enjoy the pictures that I took for you. A photography class was offered at the Frederick Meijer Gardens special dahlia exhibit. The class was allowed exclusive access to the exhibit before the general public to allow us to take a lot of photos. I was not exactly sure what to expect, but was amazed at the variety of colors, shapes, and sizes of the dahlias. If you had asked me, I would’ve definitely said they were not of the same species. All photos were shot with a Sony Alpha 7 IV.
Bottom Line Up Front: OMG… these dahlias are on fire!
I wanted to make sure that if you visited the page you didn’t miss this shot. This is one of the last ones that I took for the day and there were almost a hundred shots taken to try and get it just right. I am so happy with the results.
Macro Shots
I started off taking photos with my macro lens and tripod to get some close ups.
Zoom Lens
After the macro, I went back for my Tamron 70–180mm zoom lens with 2.8 aperture. The types of photos I could take forced me to stand further back, so I was capturing more than one flower at a time. The displays were very densely arranged with lots of signage and awards to try and not get into the photos.
Creativity
There were so many beautiful blossoms that all the shots started to feel similar. Recently, we discussed taking long exposure photographs of fireworks and tried to give that a try. I am really happy with the results. The images appear almost as if they were impressionist paintings. These were taken with my kit lens Sony 25–70mm. This images were taken by giving the camera a little twist.
Dr. Seuss
Once I started on the path of long exposures then other options became available. Some of them look like they came out of a Dr. Seuss book. A little camera jiggle goes a long way.
Last shots of Fire!
The orange and red dahlias helped create this effect.
I try and not share so many images at one time, but I really couldn’t help myself today. Thank you for taking the time to check them out!
